“And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this.” Esther 4:14

Most of us are familiar with the story of Esther. If by chance you are not, here it is in a “nutshell.” She was a Jewish, orphan girl, who became Queen Esther. Her people, the Jews, had been given a death sentence and she, as Queen could go before King Ahasuerus, but only if called or his golden scepter was extended. To go, she knew could mean her death. Her Uncle Mordecai, then stated that perhaps this moment, the saving of her people, could be for which she was created, “For such a time as this.”

We are all created with purpose. God knows the plans he has for each one of us. In Psalm 139:16, “All the days ordained for me were written in YOUR book, before one of them came to be.” Too often we try to thwart those plans with our agenda, our timeline.

One may say there are several moments you were created for, life changing moments. But what about those moments that God impresses upon your heart and excuses are given. Excuses such as, “I just do not have the time.” “There are no funds…..GOD!” “It will NOT make a bit of difference, so why bother.” “It is just too exhausting.” Then such statements as, “She made that “bed” so she will need to lie in it.” “It is his battle, not mine.”

As I read that verse in Esther, right now Rayburn and I are in a battle. A battle that we did not go looking for. The phrase, “Created for such a time as this,” leaped off the page. A dear friend, a very needy dear friend, calling, pleading for help, we had a choice to make. Praying, fasting, seeking wisdom…. the battle, literally for her life. There are two choices set before her. One, by the court, per a group to take complete control or by the court, a group, that is Rayburn and me, pleading for life. This friend, yes in many ways, needs assistance, but she is not ready to be put in a home to wither away. In fact, God is using her in our lives, teaching Rayburn and me MUCH ABOUT LIFE. And just maybe, we were created for this time in her life, coming in at the eleventh hour, listening to the cry of her heart.

Is there a fight ahead, yes there is? We KNOW the intent of our heart and with confidence KNOW that God has a plan, a plan for good. AND WE KNOW FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS, WE WILL STAND IN THE GAP FOR OUR FRIEND!
