An attitude of gratitude is a conscious spirit which is thankful for sunny days and the cloudy days. Actually, made known, through actions, words spoken, the appreciation of every aspect of our life. Really! How can that be? Thessalonians 5:18 states, ” In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Give thanks for the big things! Give thanks for the little things! This attitude is on purpose, focused and can be poured out into lives; mine, yours and others. Romans 15:13, “May the God of Hope fill you with all JOY, PEACE as you TRUST HIM, so that you may OVERFLOW with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” We can overflow into others! The question, what is flowing from me, from you?
How do we touch lives with and attitude of gratitude? Being thankful for the small things. In the busyness of life, we can take so much for granted. We get caught up in our agenda, that we assume our loved one will come home at the end of the day. That precious child, will get off the school bus. Our co worker will pick up the slack. We assume that our merry go round of life will continue.
Then we are jolted into the fact of life, that we are not guaranteed our next breath. Life can change in an instance and those acts of gratitude that could have been given, become regrets.
Thanksgiving, a special holiday, lends to having a thankful spirit. What would be life changing, is to cultivate this attitude everyday. Appreciation for all aspects of life. A regular habit, being grateful for the little things and yes, even when those “big things” come.
I once read that if you focus on what you have, you will always have more. If you focus on what you do not have, you will never have enough!
There are many days that “go south.” That means they are not perfect! An attitude of gratitude is finding that glimmer of hope. In doing so, it will make a difference!
Start by asking, ” What am I thankful for? Then making a conscious choice to allow THANKSGIVING to be a year round celebration! Definitely changing one’s ATTITUDE of GRATITIDE.
