As a young girl growing up in the 60’s and 70’s, it was not uncommon, for the truth of the coming of our Lord to be proclaimed, as the old saying goes, “From the roof tops!” The second coming of our Lord was preached so profoundly that I just knew Jesus was coming at any moment. Preached in such a way I just knew I would not see my 16th birthday. Preached in such a way that one was encouraged to be about the Father’s business, bringing in the sheaves, as the old hymn stated. There was weekly soul winning, going door to door telling people about the saving grace of Jesus.
As a teenager we were encouraged to be a testimony of God Almighty, not to be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, but a proclaimer of that Gospel. I loved going door to door with my pastor’s wife, Mrs. Chitwood. There was a genuine passion for souls that burned deep within her. She would come and get me and off we would go. We had the love of Jesus to share, because the time was short.
The time was short, WOW, that has been 45 plus years ago. Yes, I have made it past several milestones; birthdays, marriage, children and grandchildren. There are many days I whisper, “Even so come Lord Jesus.” There are many days I look up into the beautiful blue sky and ponder, “This could be the day my Lord will come for me.” But until he does, I MUST CONTINUE TO BE ABOUT MY FATHER’S BUISNESS! Loving others and sharing Christ. This world needs Jesus and yes, the time is short……. Maybe today!
