I love traditions. I heard once that traditions are stories that families write TOGETHER. Some “stories” are carried from generation to generation. Many of those “stories” will bring to mind precious memories.  Those traditions may take you back to your childhood days or as recent as today. When I take a journey back in time, sometimes it is the little traditions that makes my heart smile. The peppermint stick my grandpa Woodle would give me, only at Christmas. The family ride in the car to see Christmas lights. The making of Martha Washington cremes with my mom……and eating them after I found where she hid them. The candle light placed in my bedroom window. I loved the glow it put off as I fell off to sleep. What traditions from your past come to mind? Which ones are making you smile right now?

It is important to share these traditions with family. It is a way to teach the younger ones what is important to the family. It is a special way to teach family values and that FAMILY is a gift. Tomorrow we will have our grandchildren and enjoy one of my favorite Hare Christmas tradition; the giving of our Lord’s money. Our Christmas present to Jesus. This is a tradition we have enjoyed for many years. We have a jar that money is collected in all year. This money is taken to the bank and counted. Use to we would spend time counting it ourselves……great family time! Just ask the Hare kids! Once it is counted, then it is given, WITH JOY!  And just maybe it will be a tradition that will be carried into the next generation and the next, touching lives with the gift of giving.
