As I ponder the past, the present and look to the future, music has been and will always be a part of my life, in some form. I remember when we moved from North Carolina to Missouri, in 1995, to be a part of Tri City Ministry, I noticed right away that the music was done well, very well! I had a conversation with my Heavenly Father. I told him that singing specials, well, I left that part of my life in North Carolina. I told Him that I would gladly sing in the choir and just blend in. It wasn’t long, just a few weeks, Beverly Deedrick approached me and asked if I would sing with her at the piano. It was just the two of us. We sang, I sang, and then she shared that she had been chosen to listen to me sing. I shared my short version of the music in my life and even shared my thoughts I prayed just a few weeks earlier. Our lady’s retreat was the next month and I was asked to sing a special. I prepared but the morning of the retreat, I woke with a very bad case of laryngitis. As I was on my knees, I was reminded of my earlier thoughts about me and music. Jesus simply showed me that my singing was not about me, it could be taken away. Through my tears, I asked Him to forgive me.
Fast forward to now, 2022. Music is still a part of my soul, it will always be. I enjoy singing, whether during one of our retreats or churches that Rayburn and I are in. There is sweet joy ministering, whether singing or speaking when you are doing HIS WORK. Where He is working, I want to be in the very center…….singing and making melody TO THE LORD with my heart, Ephesians 5:19.
