Does one really believe there are angels walking among us? Now grandparents, I am not referring to those little “angels” that we call grandchildren. I am speaking of real angels as stated in Hebrews 13:2, “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” That unexplained person who is there just at the right moment. Then suddenly disappears into the crowd. I love reading about angel encounters, oh how it causes those “goose bumps”.
It was a cool Spring day. I was catering a luncheon at our church. At the end of the luncheon, I begin to package the left overs. Fresh sandwiches, veggies, fruit, even dessert! As always, I would offer the food items to the staff, but that peculiar day, I had no takers.
I needed to go to my car. As I walked, I simply prayed, “Lord, who am I going to give the food too?” As I approached my car, a little blue car arrived. I walked over to see if I could be of any assistance to them. Inside the car was a family. A dad, a very pregnant mom and three little girls in the back seat. It was not uncommon for our church to have people in need show up. Our church very visible from the interstate. The towering crosses in the sky compelling them to come. I asked how could I help them? The man’s reply, “All we need is food.” “Food”, I replied as my heart leaped within. I then told them if they would give me just a couple of minutes, I would have a feast to share. I ran inside, quickly found one of our pastors, explained the couple in the little blue car, only wanted food, and I had plenty. Remember, already packaged. He went to visit with them and I gathered the food, water and juice boxes and WITH JOY gave to them.
A family of five, forever engrained in my heart. The three little girls with their angelic faces. The un-describable sweetness that flowed from the mom and dad. As they drove off, I asked my pastor if he thought they were angels on a mission? He said yes. In my heart, I knew they were and I had fed them!
