We all love receiving gifts. The anticipation of unwrapping and beholding what is inside is real. I will admit, over my lifetime, there have been gifts that I opened that created quite a stir. I smile as I remember a gift I received from my mother. The package beautifully wrapped. When I opened, inside was a pair of shoes, ladies high heel shoes. I gasped with glee. These shoes were covered with a multi-colored fabric. Yes, envision a swirl of pink, purple, yellow, orange, red and blue. There were few outfits these shoes would not just add a “POP” too. What I didn’t expect was Rayburn’s response. He stated, “ Donna, those shoes are a joke….RIGHT”! “You’re not planning on wearing them…..RIGHT”! Really! Wear them I would, the next Sunday to church. As I was getting ready, Rayburn told me if I wore those shoes to church, he would not be walking in with me. Well, I did wear them and he did not walk in with me, but he did sit with me. Oh my, did I ever love those shoes and the matching purse…..that only added to Rayburn’s anxiety!
Oh goodness, I can so get off on little “rabbit trails.” I was talking about opened gifts that create a stir. There are many gifts received that create a well of emotions. That special handmade flower pin, formed by the small hands of a child. That child, was our daughter Carmen. I still have the pin. A sweet gift of a daughter’s love. I protected it so much that I never wore it for fear of it breaking. That was my thoughts, my daughter’s, she made it to be worn.
Webster Dictionary defines the word gift(noun) as a thing given willingly to someone without payment. As much as we all love gifts, there is ONE GIFT THAT CAN NEVER BE MATCHED. The personal gift, wrapped with love. Inside is Jesus, waiting to be opened…….your personal gift and you are the only one that can open it. This gift of salvation is free, paid IN FULL, by Jesus’ death on the cross, the shedding of HIS BLOOD. This gift of salvation, certainly can cause a stir. One that envelopes the soul. One that can create a thirst to want to KNOW HIM MORE. One that leaves you breathless as you ponder that GOD ALMIGHTY loves you! That HE IS MY GOD! His love has no limits, His grace has no measure, His power has no boundaries known unto man. But out of his infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth and giveth and giveth again.(Song:He Giveth More Grace) His gift to us, from His Heart to ours! A gift that keeps on giving…..FOR ALL ETERNITY. A gift that is priceless, but you must open to experience! Have you opened your heart to him? He is waiting to give you the GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE!
